Corporate information

Founded in February of 1973,  the Native People of Thunder Bay Development Corporation (NPTBDC) started with a small portfolio and originally operated out of the Thunder Bay Indian Friendship Centre, and when the Corporation required more space, we relocated to our current office in 1986.

NPTBDC housing was an 'offshoot' program as a result of the needs that were realized by community members, and to this day, some long-time tenants still refer to the housing program as 'Friendship Centre Housing'.

One other program under the NPTBDC flag was the Native Employment Opportunities Program, which provided not only training but placement, in various trades throughout the city. Unfortunately due to lack of funding, that program dissolved in the early 1990s.

We are currently celebrating our 49th year of providing safe and affordable housing for Aboriginal families who reside or relocated to the City of Thunder Bay for schooling, employment, and health reasons.
